Beach Bag Must Haves

Top 5 Beach Bag Essentials for 2020

I'm always packed and ready for the beach in the same way others might pack a bag when they are expecting a child. My beach bag is either in the car or by the door ready for action. I typically go through my beach bag to make changes or replace/update things about twice a year. I will admit that I've had to change some things up since the COVID pandemic started. I have a bit more items in my beach bag than I usually do. The mandatory items that go without saying are a face mask and the essential hand sanitizer. A few of my other beach bag must have essentials for 2020 are:

Beach Blanket/Towel: My favorite beach towel is from a business called Lovin Summer. I exhibited at a tradeshow in New York a few years ago and they were my booth neighbor.  I think their company is awesome!  I have the round beach towel called Laguna which can be found here. Before that I had a beach towel that I used for 30 years from Ron Jon Surf Shop that went literally everywhere with me and it showed. I always make sure I have a blanket or a towel because I would much rather sit on the sand versus finding a piece of hard driftwood or rock to sit on. I take care of my body and am very mindful about my lower back and spine.

A Small Mesh Bag: I am a total and complete beach hound and am ALWAYS staring at the ground when I go to the beach. You just never know what you are going to find as you walk around everywhere. My favorite mesh bags can be found here. I want a place where I can keep some really cool seashells that I find instead of filling my pockets with sand and shells. A mesh bag is also perfect for collecting sea glass because even the really tiny pieces that I make for earrings can't get out.

Reusable Gloves: Each beach is very unique and some are quite pristine and other beaches have the potential to be the most beautiful and cleanest beach. Pollution, beach trash, and harmful bacteria do concern me when I pick things up from the shore. I make jewelry for a living so my hands always have a cut or bandage on them from working. I have never met a jewelry maker who has perfect manicured hands and if they do, they don't make jewelry for a living. Reusable gloves are perfect for protecting me and my hands so I don't get infected from lurking bacteria. My pick for the best heavy duty gloves are here.

Reusable Bag: I am super passionate about keeping the beach clean.  If I see garbage, I pick it up with my reusable gloves. I put the beach trash in my reusable bag to dispose of properly later. If every person who visited the beach picked up one piece of trash during their visit, we would have the cleanest beaches ever!  Also keep in mind you are cleaning up the beach to help protect all the sea life and wildlife that die from our garbage every year. It's heartbreaking to see a seagull with a piece of plastic stuck on it's body. It's one of the best ways to give back to the planet and keep it clean for future generations. The best reusable beach clean up bags can be found here.

Sunscreen: I'm from Florida and I literally grew up on the beach so skin cancer is always a concern of mine. Sunscreen is always in my bag and I use it all over even when it's cloudy out. The sun is just one of those things that can penetrate through anything, including clothing. I used to think that if I wore a hat that I'd be all set, but that is not the case. The sun reflects off of the beach sand and will expose your skin so cover up and be generous with it. It's one of the few products that I over apply and use often. My favorite sunscreen is here.

That's it folks! Those are my absolute favorite must have beach bag essentials.  One of the other things that I also bring to the beach with me is my beach sand jewelry.  I just never know when the perfect photo opportunity will present itself and I want to make sure that I'm always ready. Some of the best product photos that I've ever taken have been very spur of the moment when the lighting is perfect.

I hope this helps you get a little bit more organized the next time you take a trip to the beach. If anything you can put your bag together and just stare at it everyday to remind yourself to get to the beach.  Making time for ourselves seems to be one of the hardest things to do. If you pick up a piece of beach trash, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart because you have just made my day! Enjoy your beach day and think of me when you are looking at the sand between your toes.
